The fatal flaw with New Year’s resolutions — and most goal-setting, for that matter — is that we typically bite off more than we can chew. We’re not setting realistic goals. As such, we end up disappointed and, often, with a forgotten resolution by the time February rolls around.
Finding that crucial balance between work and social life something everyone struggles with. If you’re a single gal finding time to schedule personal time, appointments, brunch with the girls and dating. If you’re married juggling a partner, kids, work and a household can be a struggle.
Below are 5 New Year’s resolutions that can help make your 2018 the best it can be:
- Take more Me time
We’re guessing you maybe gave a little too much to others this past year and not enough to yourself. Perhaps you were stretched too thin or overextended yourself. That’s OK! It was a time for learning and growing. In the new year, it’s OK to say “no” sometimes and take a little more time for yourself. Whether it’s for getting organized, doing a solo workout, or just binge-watching your favourite show from your bed, allow yourself some personal space in 2018.
- Ditch the Foods You Hate
If you’re sick of kale, we’ve got news for you: it’s time to stop trying. Force feeding yourself foods you hate simply because they’re “healthy” is a sure-fire way to ensure your diet plans backfire (and your mood won’t be awesome, either). Even dietitians recommend finding foods you love and indulging now and then. Let go of the crap that makes you miserable and figure out what fuels your body and your soul. It IS possible!
- Learn something you never learned as a child
You may run your own company, pay your own bills and parallel-park like a pro, but do you know how to do a handstand or ride a bike? it’s time to nurture your inner child and learn that thing that you never learned to do. Set this to rights and have some fun at the same time by redressing this gap in your knowledge. Your younger self would be proud!
- Get your photo taken in five interesting places
If you’ve got the travel bug and want to see a bit more of the world, why not make it a New Year’s resolution to visit five interesting places you’ve always wanted to see? Even better, make a visual record of the year by making sure you get a photo of yourself taken in each place.
- Make More Time for Breakfast
You’ve probably heard this phrase a million times, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Take that little extra time in the morning to stop and eat something in the morning. I bet you’ll notice that you’re more productive, awake and feel better. Your brain and body will thank you for it and your boss might even too.
