It can be easy to go to the same job every day and not look at whether doing so is the right step for you. But don’t become complacent when it comes to your career! You have to ask yourself questions whenever possible to stay on the right trajectory for your life.
Whether you are actively looking for new employment, or you’re just starting to mull over the idea, here a few questions you should ask yourself.
- Do you feel proud?
Does your current position fill you with pride? Is your day-to-day work fulfilling and adding either joy or accomplishment to your life? Does what you do align with your values, and will you be happy to look back on your life? Are you happy with what you have accomplished and how you accomplished it? These are big questions, and it can be hard to ask them, but both your mental health and career path will benefit from it.
- Do you have room to grow?
Have you been in the same position for too long? Have you done all that you can do? For some, that might be exactly what they want. They have reached as high as they can, and where they are is fulfilling. But for many of us, we dream of that big promotion. So it’s time to be honest with yourself and ask whether or not it’s really coming. And if you’re unsure, it’s okay to ask your superiors. Have an open conversation about where they see you in the future.
- Is it a good place to work?
This might seem like a silly or simplistic question, but it should be a top priority. Is your workplace somewhere that is supportive? Do you feel a sense of camaraderie? No matter the work that you do, enjoying the company and culture of where you are is incredibly important to feeling fulfilled.
