The best ways to manage tough times in the office
We’re all familiar with feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and anxious at work, and while we might think these feelings are unavoidable, there are ways of countering negative emotions in the workplace. The truth of it is, all of these negative emotions are having a larger negative effect on our wellbeing once we leave the office, and they don’t contribute much to our work, either. If you’ve been finding yourself angry or upset in the office, it is probably time to take a step back and reevaluate how you act and react at work.
One of the most important steps to take is to understand that there are things you can’t change at work. Mindful acceptance can be difficult, but the truth of it is that sometimes circumstances are out of our control. If there is something that you cannot change that is getting you down, accept that the inconvenience happened, acknowledge your emotions around the situation, then try to move on. After all, try as we might, we will never be able to control everything around us, and learning healthy ways of coping with such circumstances will get you a lot further than holding onto the negativity.
Try to see your circumstance from the outside by mentally removing yourself from a situation, just to appraise what’s really going on. Often, when we untangle our complex emotions from situations, we can look upon events objectively, and it makes it easier to see that what was troubling us really isn’t so bad.
While it may seem easier said than done, practicing these techniques will vastly improve your work life, your mental health, and your emotional wellbeing, and over time it will become easier to find the positives in these negative situations and emotions.
